Research Interests: User-centered design in a broad range of domains. Transportation infrastructure. Vulnerable road user (VRU) interactions.


Joelle Girgis joined the HFASt lab as a MASc student in September 2019. Joelle obtained her B.Sc. in Psychology from the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) in 2018. Her honours thesis, in Cognitive Neuroscience, investigated the effects of eye movement and spatial coding strategy on visual working memory performance (under the supervision of Matthias Niemeier). Prior to joining HFASt, Joelle worked as a Design Researcher on TD Bank’s interdisciplinary Digital Customer Experience team for 1.4 years. During her time there, she implemented a wide range of methodologies across various research settings; from usability testing and app design, to ethnographic observation and workspace analysis.
